Develop with Git: grow from user to developer The recommended way to build websites with Exponential. Install the kernel and every se7enxweb extension as Git clones with their full history, turn an existing site into clones, keep them up to date, and send your… DevelopersEnd users Development
Contribute extensions back: share your work with everyone Why and how to give the extensions you build back to the Exponential project so everyone can use them; what the GNU GPL really requires when you distribute an extension (and what it does not require for a site you only… DevelopersEnd usersPartnersDesigners Development
Update with Git: stay in sync with GitHub Keep a site made of Git clones up to date, first with Git (the kernel) and then with Composer (the extensions), either on the command line or in the administration during a maintenance window. Two parallel tracks with… AdministratorsDevelopersEnd users Development
Operator index All 401 template operators registered on the site and admin siteaccesses, A to Z, each with the family page that documents its parameters, return value and examples, the class that serves it and where that class comes… DevelopersDesignersApplication creators Development
What the template language is The Exponential template language (eZ TPL, ezpl) in one page - a Smarty-like language for .tpl files, where it is used (designs, module views, mail, PDF), the parts of the engine in lib/eztemplate, and what it does… DevelopersDesignersApplication creators Development
History of the template language How the template language grew, told only from what the repository records - the git history from 2002, the changelogs from 2.9, the compiler of 2003, the def/if/foreach syntax of 2005 (version 3.6) that replaced let… DevelopersDesignersApplication creators Development
Smarty and the template language: the differences in depth The differences that trip up Smarty users, each shown on a development installation - no infix arithmetic or comparison, no PHP in templates, no automatic escaping, unknown operators that pass their input through… DevelopersDesignersApplication creators Development
Lexical structure How the parser reads a template - the delimiters, the kinds of tags (output tags, function tags, end tags, single tags), comments, literal blocks, ldelim and rdelim, escaping a brace inside a tag, the rule that removes… DevelopersDesignersApplication creators Development
Values and literals The values a template can write down - strings in single or double quotes (no variable interpolation, the escapes the parser knows), integers and floats, true() and false(), arrays and hashes built with array() and… DevelopersDesignersApplication creators Development
Variables in depth The exact rules of def, undef, set, let and default from eZTemplateDefFunction and eZTemplateSetFunction - the warnings for defining twice, setting an unknown variable and undefining one that def did not make, undef… DevelopersDesignersApplication creators Development
Namespaces How the template engine keeps variables apart - the root and current namespace, the four ways to name a variable ($var, $ns:var, $:var, $#var), what include does with and without name=, the namespaces section and let… DevelopersDesignersApplication creators Development
Arithmetic operators The 18 operators of eZTemplateArithmeticOperator (sum, sub, mul, div, mod, inc, dec, min, max, abs, ceil, floor, round, int, float, count, roman, rand) with their parameters, input, return value and examples rendered on… DevelopersDesignersApplication creators Development
Attribute access How $a.b and $a[b] are resolved - arrays by key, objects through attributes(), hasAttribute() and attribute(), eZPersistentObject fields and function attributes, dynamic keys, numeric indexes, attributes after an… DevelopersDesignersApplication creators Development

Operators in expressions How operators are written and evaluated - the pipe form and the call form, what the input value is in each, chaining, nesting operators as parameters, attributes after an operator, operators inside function parameters… DevelopersDesignersApplication creators Development
Functions versus operators The two kinds of named things in the template language compared - template functions are tags that write output and control the template, operators compute values - with their registration arrays, the methods each PHP… DevelopersDesignersApplication creators Development
Logic operators The 13 operators of eZTemplateLogicOperator (eq, ne, lt, gt, le, ge, and, or, not, null, true, false, choose), including the count rule of lt/gt/le/ge that compares strings by length, with examples rendered on a… DevelopersDesignersApplication creators Development
Control operators cond and first_set from eZTemplateControlOperator - inline conditions and fallbacks that evaluate only what they need, how the interpreter and the compiled template differ for a false default, with examples rendered on… DevelopersDesignersApplication creators Development
